New Town Neighborhood A Visionary Community
Marshall's New Town Neighborhood, a historic African American community and the site of historically black Wiley College, joined the Visionaries in Preservation program as a local and statewide model for neighborhood preservation planning. Endangered and threatened resources have pushed New Town residents to uncover their rich history and reverse negative trends in the neighborhood. The residents will work together to build partnerships and support while developing innovative methods and resources to address the needs of the neighborhood. New Town residents envision a positive future for their historically significant community, and will explore how they can use historic preservation as a tool for neighborhood revitalization.
