The Texas Historical Commission utilizes the National Register criteria in determining the historical significance of properties in Texas, regardless of whether formal listing is desired or required. The THC’s determination of eligibility is based upon review of materials submitted, including:
- current photographs of the property
- date of construction and other significant dates (such as dates of alterations)
- overview of the property's history
- biographies of significant persons, if applicable
- current and historic maps and plans
- copies of historic photos
