• There are over  700 local history museums  in the state of Texas.
• Museum Services Program was established in 1969.
• There are only 11 counties in Texas that do not have history museums.
• Approximately 19% of all Texas history museums are located in the Independence Trail Region.
• 3 Heritage Trail regions have at least one history museum in every county.  These are Independence, Mountain and Lakes.
• Texas has the largest state museum association in the country. 
• There are an estimated 1,200 – 1,800 museum in Texas.
