The RIP Guardian network is the growing statewide web of cemetery preservation volunteers dedicated to protecting historic burial grounds in Texas. The Texas Historical Commission (THC) provides technical assistance to RIP Guardians across the state, and encourages them to Record, Investigate and Protect (RIP) local history by championing for a historic cemetery.
Step 1: Has the cemetery been designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery? Search for designations on the THC Historic Sites Atlas or contact staff.
Step 2: Read the RIP Guardian fact sheet and RIP Guardian Introduction
Step 3: Sign and submit the RIP Guardian Code of Ethics and additional volunteer documents located in the Introduction
Step 4: Get started! Participants work with THC staff to identify local goals and available tools.
RIP Guardians may begin participating in the network at any time.
