TEXAS LAND TITLE ASSOCIATION RENEWS COMMITMENT TO HELPING SAVE HISTORIC TEXAS COURTHOUSES
8.25.11—With more historic county courthouses than any other state, Texas is privileged to house more than 235 temples of justice that are at least 50 years old. The Texas Historical Commission’s (THC) award-wining Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program has enabled the complete restoration of more than 50 of these structures, but the continued support of the Texas Land Title Association (TLTA) ensures these beautiful buildings maintain their newly restored glory.
NOMINATE YOUR COMMUNITY FOR THE FIRST LADY’S TEXAS TREASURES AWARD
8.17.11—Follow the preservation success of Brownsville, Castroville, Georgetown, Mt. Vernon, Nacogdoches, San Marcos, and Waxahachie and nominate your community for the 2012 First Lady’s Texas Treasures Award. The award will recognize one community in 2012 that utilizes multiple resources offered by the Texas Historical Commission (THC), as well as those of other organizations or state agencies, to support historic preservation initiatives. The winning community will be announced later in the year and receive special signage highlighting the community as a unique heritage tourism destination.
TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION PREPARES TO LAUNCH ROUND VII OF ITS HISTORIC COURTHOUSE PRESERVATION PROGRAM
8.9.11—With a $20 million appropriation from the 82nd Texas Legislature, the Texas Historical Commission (THC) will begin accepting applications for Round VII of its award-winning Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program. In 1998, Texas' courthouses appeared on the National Trust for Historic Preservation's list of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places. As a result, the Texas Legislature established the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program and appropriated funding to preserve and protect them.
