Texas Holocaust Commission Launches New Learning Website

The state of Texas memorializes victims and survivors of the Holocaust and other genocides in recognizing April as Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month. This month, the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission (THGC) launches a new website to help visitors learn more about the causes of genocide and how it can be prevented. At www.thgc.texas.gov visitors will discover valuable resources for educators and students, including lesson plans for teachers, informative videos, and workshop opportunities. The 8 Stages of Genocide Lesson Plans and Poster Project for secondary education is used by Holocaust organizations throughout the world, offering teaching materials for World Geography, United States History Since Reconstruction, and World History Studies classes. Riveting oral history transcripts, and videos and images of Texan liberators of concentration camps are posted as well.

The THGC also offers grant funds for organizations and projects that assist its mission to support Holocaust and genocide courses and awareness programs. Grants of up to $10,000 requiring a matching cash match are available to nonprofit institutions headquartered in Texas.
