Show Your Love for Texas Courthouses During February's “I Love Texas Courthouses" Campaign

February is the month of love, and what better way to express your love for some of Texas’ most beloved landmarks than online where all can see it? That’s the idea behind the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s I Love Texas Courthouses campaign, which was recently announced at the Comal County Courthouse rededication in New Braunfels.

The Trust, in partnership with the Texas Historical Commission (THC) and Preservation Texas (PT), has developed a special website where anyone can describe their favorite historic county courthouse and why it is special to them. Images are encouraged. The site will remain up and running through the month of February, and stories and more will be presented at a special event on Preservation Day in Austin on Feb. 20, hosted by PT.

The campaign and partnership is the product of the National Trust’s ongoing commitment to the preservation of the state’s iconic courthouses. In 1998, and again in 2012, the National Trust named Texas courthouses to its list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places, which proved catalytic in the creation of the THC’s Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program. The Trust has since named the courthouses a National Treasure, signifying their national significance and the National Trust’s continued involvement in their protection.
