See Historic Sites For Free During Preservation Month

May is Preservation Month, and to celebrate the Texas Historical Commission (THC) will offer free admission to all 20 THC state historic sites operated by the agency on Sunday, May 12. A complete list and directions to the sites, several of which have been recently renovated or restored,  can be found at www.texashistoricsites.com, and are located throughout Texas. Historic homes, military outposts and forts, and a national museum are all destination options on THC Historic Sites Free Day.

In addition, Texas salutes the tourism industry during Texas Travel and Tourism Week May 6-12 with a multitude of events across the state. Texas Travel and Tourism Week is part of a national recognition of the significance of the tourism industry, which focuses on the positive effects of travel on economies, families, and businesses. In conjunction with the Office of the Governor’s Economic Development and Tourism Division, Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas Commission on the Arts, Texas Department of Agriculture, and the Texas Travel Industry Association, the THC and its partners will highlight one of Texas’ seven travel regions each day during Texas Travel and Tourism Week through social media channels. Visitors will discover giveaways such as free passes, magazine subscriptions, and more. For more details go to www.TravelTex.com. For additional travel ideas, visit the THC’s new website at texastimetravel.com.
