Explore, Escape, and Enjoy on the Texas Historical Commission's New Website

The Texas Historical Commission (THC) has a brand new way of telling the real stories that showcase the real places of Texas. The agency recently launched a new website that posts the latest in preservation news and information, and offers online help to visitors looking for answers to preservation-related questions.

The new THC website provides updated menus to help visitors find information quickly, and categorizes information under the themes of Preserve, Project Review, Get Involved, Learn, and Explore. You’ll find “Fast Facts” that underscore the impact of the agency’s work, and visually appealing places that highlight its many projects and initiatives. You’ll also be able to quickly learn about the latest news and events.

Fans of the popular Medallion preservation newsletter can still read the publication on the new site, but in a new-and-improved e-magazine format that is optimized for the online readers. The Texas Historic Sites Atlas database of historic properties is still there, and is being improved to make it easier for users to quickly find the information they need. A new blog focuses on the stories behind the programs, and includes not only the THC’s, but many of its preservation partner’s success stories. Existing THC blogs, such as See the Sites, are included as well.

While some things remain the same, there are many new features, including “Need Help? Ask Us,” where visitors can ask experts a question online and receive a timely email response. A new Explore section offers information about the agency’s travel-related programs, including Texas Main Street and heritage tourism initiatives. It’s an exciting mixture of old and new, and the THC encourages people to visit and provide feedback. Get started today at the familiar www.thc.state.tx.us address.
