Sen. Van de Putte awards DeWese’s Tip Top Café which has been serving San Antonio residents and travelers since 1938. The family owned business continues to serve award winning home-style meals loved by loyal customers such as chicken fried steak, onion rings, fried shrimp and homemade pies. The restaurant building dates from 1940 when the restaurant burned and was rebuilt in the original location on Fredericksburg Road. That same year the menu featured the stamp of approval of the government rationing board, active during World War II years. In 2008 the Tip Top was featured on the Food Network’s Drive-Ins, Diners and Dives with Chef Guy Fieri. Tip Top gives to the community by thanking local firefighters once a year for their service with hot meals and delivering home-cooked meals to Youth Against Gang Activity high school seniors during the holiday season.
