Under the direction of the Site Manager, this position is responsible for providing clerical and customer service support for Fort Lancaster State Historic Site. Performs front desk duties in Visitor Center, such as greeting and attending to visitors, revenue collection, record keeping, inventory control, and merchandising. Works under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Ensures visitors experience quality customer service;
Provides site information to visitors;
Collects entrance fees and store sales, and accounts for daily revenue;
Assists with interpretive programs, volunteer programs, and special events;
Performs general routine cleaning and ensures that restrooms are clean;
May be responsible for the daily opening and closing of the site;
May be responsible for tracking site visitation and maintaining daily visitation records;
Complies with all agency and division rules, regulations, and procedures; and
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Completion of High School or GED. One year experience in general clerical, cash handling or customer service.
Work place setting is a historic site; 20 hour work week includes flexible schedules, with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and days off other than Saturday, Sunday and holidays. Must conform to agency work rules, safety procedures, and dress and grooming standards. Non-smoking work environment in state buildings and vehicles.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of basic mathematics;
Knowledge of telephone procedures and etiquette;
Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

Ability to handle cash transactions accurately and account for revenue collected;

Ability to work effectively with other staff members and volunteers; and
Ability to interact with site visitors as needed.
