JOB DESCRIPTION:

Under the direction of the site manager, this position is responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the site, revenue collection, customer service, answering telephones and basic clerical duties for the Fort McKavett State Historic Site. Duties include, but are not limited to, housekeeping, scheduling tours, providing information about the historic site and the Texas Historical Commission, assisting with special projects and events, report preparation, revenue collection and product sales, answering telephones, and opening and closing the site.  Complies with all agency policies and procedures.

 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Graduation from a standard senior high school or GED. Experience in areas such as general clerical, cash handling or customer service. (Note: Experience may have occurred concurrently.) Preferred Experience includes working with the public and handling monies.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work 40 hours per week. Flexible schedule to include days off other than Saturday, Sunday and holidays and sometimes hours other than 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Non-smoking environment in state buildings and vehicles.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

(1) Ability to carry out all job duties while alone on site; (2) Ability to follow established security and safety guidelines and procedures for staff and visitors, including emergency situations; (3) Ability to communicate information about Fort McKavett State Historic Site and  the surrounding area to the general public; (4) Able to perform housekeeping duties to include sweeping, mopping and use of cleaning products; (5) Skill in utilizing a computer in a Windows-based environment using word processing and spreadsheet programs; (6) Skill in using email and internet; (7) Skill in effective verbal and written communication; (8) Ability to handle complaints, emergencies, and a high volume of people in a professional, courteous manner; (9) Ability to collect fees, handle cash transactions accurately, and account for all revenue collected; (10) Ability to make sound, independent judgments without continual supervision; (11) Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
