First Lady's Texas Treasures Award: Castroville

First Lady's Texas Treasures AwardTexas First Lady Anita Perry, acting as honorary chair, in partnership with the Texas Historical Commission (THC) is honoring communities that have shown a high level of creativity and ingenuity in recognizing and preserving their authentic Texas sense of place. These communities use the resources and preservation tools available from the THC and others to realize significant economic benefits as a result of their strong cultural and historic preservation stewardship.

Preservation Updates Since February 2009 Award:

Castroville City Hall
Castroville City Hall
  • City Hall Building, 2011 replacement of building’s non-historic doors with all wood period-compatible doors. Work continues through fall 2011 to repair and weatherize the building’s wood windows utilizing skilled preservation craftsmen from San Antonio.

  • Official Texas Historical Markers, General Woll’s Road (completed June 2009) and Renken Cemetery (completed August 2009).
